Local lawmakers to host ‘Water Solutions for Whatcom County’ meeting May 29, advanced agenda released

State Sen. Doug Ericksen and Rep. Vincent Buys will host a ‘Water Solutions for Whatcom County’ community meeting Thursday, May 29, at the Lynden Community/Senior Center. The 42nd Legislative District lawmakers want to hear from residents about the important water quality and access issues they face.

Ericksen and Buys released the following agenda for the meeting:

1. Welcome and introduction by Sen. Ericksen and Rep. Buys

2. Presentation of North County Water Resources Plan (NCWRP)

Dale Buys, local water consultant/engineer

3. Discussion of potential funding sources for NCWRP

4. Discussion of potential legislative changes for Washington water law

The community meeting is an opportunity for residents to share ideas, concerns and to learn more about potential legislative and budget solutions from Sen. Ericksen, R- Ferndale, and Rep. Buys, R- Lynden. A local consultant, who has been working with the state Department of Health and various water associations and farm organizations in Whatcom on habitat protection issues, will be on hand to provide a technical overview and take questions.

Ericksen, chair of the Senate Energy, Environment and Telecommunications Committee, and Buys, who serves as the ranking Republican on the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, encourage both public and private stakeholders to join them in the discussion.
